#TwitterBan: BBNaija organisers ‘dump’ microblogging app for Facebook
Fans and followers of the Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) reality tv show were shocked on Saturday to observe that no update of the happenings on the programme was uploaded to Twitter.
A quick search through the social media handles of the Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) revealed that the organisers appear to have complied with the Federal Government’s Twitter ban, WuzupNigeria reports.
On June 4, the Federal Government suspended the operations of the micro-blogging platform, Twitter in Nigeria, accusing the social media site of undermining national existence.
However, during the opening show on Saturday night monitored by WuzupNigeria, the host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, only read comments from the reality show’s official Facebook page.
The reality show, which premiered on Saturday night, continues tomorrow.
Findings by WuzupNigeria also revealed that the official Twitter page of the reality show (@BBNaija) last tweeted on June 3.
This came as a surprise to many BBNaija fans who, on Saturday night, flocked to the app using Virtual Private Network (VPN) applications to bypass restrictions to Twitter to trend various BBNaija hashtags on their favourite Housemates.
This year’s edition of BBNaija will run for 72 days and end on October 3, 2021.
Fans will be able to vote for their favourite Housemates for free on BBNaija’s official website and mobile app as well as on the MyDStv and MyGOtv apps.
