Super League: Angry fans storm United’s training ground with “Glazer out” banners

Man United fans invade training complex Glazers

Some Manchester United invaded the club’s training ground on Thursday to protest the Glazer family’s involvement in the controversial European Super League breakaway competition.
WuzupNIgeria reported that the Glazers who were never in the good books of the club fans, alongside Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool, signed up for the failed project which failed to sail after only 48 hours of its official announcement.

Sky Sports reported that the security breach at the club’s Carrington Training Complex by about 20 supporters forced the intervention of United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who pleaded for calm after they blocked both entrances to the Carrington headquarters.

It was reported that Solskjaer was joined by assistant manager Michael Carrick, technical director, Darren Fletcher and United midfielder, Nemanja Matic, to address the aggrieved fans.

Banners such as “51% MUFC 20”, “We decide when you play” and “Glazer out”, could be seen with the 51 per cent pointing that fans hold the majority of voting rights at a club, which is commonplace in German football.

“At approximately 9.00am this morning a group gained access to the club training ground,” a United statement said.

“The manager and others spoke to them. Buildings were secured and the group has now left the site.”
The Glazers, who have been labelled “scavengers” by club legend Gary Neville, were reportedly deep in the ESL plans with United co-chairman Joel Glazer named vice-chairman of the despised breakaway competition, to Real Madrid’s Florentino Perez.

The move, however, seemed to have reignited another call for the American family’s exit from the club as fans have opposed their ownership since they completed their controversial takeover in 2005.

In the wake of the controversy surrounding the breakaway competition’s failed plans, United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward announced that he would leave his role at the club, coming days after he resigned from his role with UEFA after United left the European Clubs Association.

While Glazer has not attended a United game in over two years, Solskjaer would be attending to questions regarding the controversial competition for the first time during the pre-match interview ahead of Sunday’s clash against Leeds United at Elland Road.

Glazer’s apology speech is his first communication with United’s fans in almost 16 years.
