Ahmed Mohamed Teredisho, SNA Sector 27 Commander told radio Mogadishu that the troops also destroyed terrorist bases during the operation.
“We killed 15 al-Shabab militants, injured others, and destroyed their bases at Afcad location near Bulaburte in a well-planned operation this morning,’’ Teredisho said.
He added that the operation would continue until the army liberated all areas under the militant group in Hiiraan region.
Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen (HSM) more commonly known as al-Shabaab, is a terrorist, jihadist fundamentalist group based in East Africa and Yemen.
In 2009 Ahmed Abdi Godane, the leader of Al Shabaab imposed a ban on the UN World Food Programme and other Western Agencies in Somalia.
Al-Shabab controls large parts of central and southern Somalia and has ties to other Islamist terror groups such as al Qaeda and Boko Haram.
They have carried out attacks across the region, including a 2013 shooting at the Westgate shopping center in Nairobi, Kenya, which left more than 60 people dead.
