Septuagenarian arrested for allegedly stealing eight bags of dried fish

A Septuagenarian, Roseline Kalejaiye, accused of standing as guarantor for daughter who allegedly obtained eight bags of dried fish, valued at N960,000, under false pretences, on Tuesday appeared in an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The police charged Kalejaiye, with four counts bordering on obtaining under false pretext and stealing.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Insp  Oladele Adebayo, the prosecutor told the court that the defendant commuted the offence between 2017 and 2018 at Oyingbo Market.

He said that the defendant who stood as guarantor for her daughter who defrauded Mrs Felicia Omolere of N960,000, being proceeds of eight bags of dried fish.

Adebayo said that the defendant who stood as guarantor for Kikelomo denied promising to pay back the money if her daughter failed to.

The prosecution also alleged that the accused has refused to reveal the whereabouts of her daughter who absconded with the complainant’s money.

The offence, Adebayo noted contravened the provisions of sections 168, 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Chief Magistrate O.O. Olatunji, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two responsible sureties each in like sum.

He adjourned the case until April 11 for mention.
