Offa Poly ex-deputy rector’s son jailed for cybercrime in Kwara

A High Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, has sentenced one Olaoye Jamiu Olarewaju, son of a former Deputy Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Offa, to jail over offences bordering on cybercrime.

Olaoye was sentenced to six months imprisonment with an option of fine to the tune of N150,000.

Justice Adenike Akinpelu of the Kwara State High Court also sentenced two others alongside Olaoye over similar offences.

One Badmus Ridwan Moyosore, a native of Ibadan, Oyo State, and one Abdulsalam Ibrahim from Malete in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State, were also convicted for cybercrime.

The trio were prosecuted separately by Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Thursday.

A witness who testified against Olaoye said that he fraudulently defrauded one of his victims to the tune of $2,000, while the testimony against Badmus revealed that the defendant swindled his victim of the sum of $200.
