North-East commission to establish Boko Haram museum in Maiduguri
The Managing-Director of the North East Development Commission, Mohammed Alkali, has announced plans to establish a Boko Haram museum in Maiduguri, in collaboration with the University of Maiduguri and other stakeholders.
The museum, according to Alkali, is aimed at giving the narratives of the Boko Haram insurgency in a positive way to create social changes.
Alkali made the announcement on Thursday during the commemoration of the International Day of Peace 2023 in Maiduguri.
He said the museum would preserve relics and literature to tell the stories of the insurgency to future generations.
“We are discussing with the university and other stakeholders to see how the museum would be established to preserve the relics and literature to tell the stories for the next coming generation” he said.
The NEDC, he said, is open to giving any support within its mandate to defeat violent extremism in the region.
Alkali also announced that the NEDC would support innovative ideas from young people in the region.
He said the commission was impressed by innovations made by little children who had never attended school.
Alkali commended the Peace Ambassadors Centre for Humanitarian Aid and Empowerment for its work in discovering and supporting young talents in the region.
He also commended the NEDC for offering timely support to young talents.
The President of the Peace Ambassadors Centre for Humanitarian Aid and Empowerment, Ahmed Shehu, had earlier conferred a Peace Ambassador Award on Alkali.
Shehu commended Alkali for his NEDC leadership and commitment to peace and development in the North East region.
