Imo university gets hostel 38 years after it was established
The Imo State University, Owerri, has completed the construction of its hostels thereby making it a residential institution 38 years after it was established.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Adaobi Obasi disclosed this at the 27th matriculation ceremony of the institution over the weekend.
Obasi stated that the university which was officially a non-residential institution had now become residential with the construction of three blocks of hostel, two for female students and one for the males.
She told the matriculating students that they should count themselves lucky, being the first set of students to occupy the brand new hostels.
Obasi also counseled the new set of students to take their studies very seriously.
She further congratulated the matriculating students, saying that their achievement was no mean feat.
The VC said,
“IMSU aims at encouraging the advancement of learning in Imo state in particular and Nigeria at large and holding out to all persons (students) irrespective of race, creed of sex the opportunity to acquire higher education.
“Other targets of the institution include: To ensure the publication and dissemination of results of such academic and professional researches and discoveries including to provide appropriate community service to humanity”.
She, however, thanked TETFUND, Federal Ministry of Education and Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for funding the construction of various new faculty building in the university.
Obasi warned that the university had zero tolerance to secret cult indecent dressing, sagging, “sorting” examination misconduct, impersonation, and lateness.
