Ekiti 2022: Ex-Gov Segun Oni dumps PDP after losing primary

Published

A former Governor of Ekiti State and Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in the state, Chief Segun Oni, has dumped the party.

This comes after Oni was defeated, coming second, in the party’s primary elections held on January 26, ahead of the Governorship Election slated for June 18.

According to The Nation, Director of Media and Publicity of Segun Oni Movement, Adebayo Jackson, on Saturday, confirmed that the former governor has withdrawn his membership of the PDP.

As of the time of filing this report, the former governor has not disclosed his next move but speculations suggest he might join the All Progressives Grand Alliance to contest the governorship poll.

Meanwhile, Oni lost the PDP primary election to flag bearer, Mr Bisi Kolawole, an anointed candidate of former Governor Ayodele Fayose.

Governor Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom who presided over the election had declared Kolawole as the winner of the election.

Kolawole was said to have polled 671 votes to beat Oni, his closest rival, who scored 330 votes.
