Nothern governors abandonement of Youths, Arewa Consultative Forum

The Arewa Consultative Forum has expressed concern over the recent abduction of 287 students in Kuriga community, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The forum suggests that the incident appears to have been a planned attack by the bandits, adding that it highlights the disconcerting reality despite significant public resources allocated to the security sector.

In a statement on Saturday, ACF’s National Publicity Secretary, Professor Tukur Muhammad-Baba, called on the Federal Government to move beyond mere directives and take decisive actions to rescue the abducted students. The forum also condemned a bandit attack at a mosque in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area that resulted in the death of two individuals, emphasizing the persistent threat posed by bandits in the region.

The ACF is advocating for a comprehensive regional strategy against bandits and terrorists, urging security forces to adopt effective measures. The forum specifically called for the immediate deployment of initiatives such as the Special Schools Security Scheme, schools’ vigilante force, and anti-kidnapping squads across states prone to terrorism.

Vice President Kashim Shettima visited the affected community and, during a meeting with community leaders and representatives of the abducted students’ families, expressed the Federal Government’s empathy. He assured them of intensified efforts to rescue the schoolchildren and enhance security measures.

The recent kidnapping in Kaduna follows a pattern of mass abductions of students in Nigeria. In Sokoto, bandits attacked an Islamic school, kidnapping 15 students and a woman.

While there are speculations about negotiations for the release of the victims, Governor Uba Sani has refuted such claims.

The ACF’s call for urgent action underscores the need for a robust and effective response to the escalating security challenges in the region.
