Abuja-Kaduna rail line contributes N300m to Nigeria’s economy monthly
The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has claimed that the Abuja-Kaduna train service has started contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth.
Speaking during a recent appearance on Channels TV, the minister claimed that the train service generates at least three hundred million naira (N300,000,000) for the country every month.
“We make N300million per month from the Abuja-Kaduna train,” the minister declared.
He added that “currently, we are running Lagos-Ibadan from the money we are making from Abuja-Kaduna rail service, at the end of the day, we pay back over N100million to the federal government.”
Amaechi further revealed that the government is planning to increase revenue generation from the Lagos-Ibadan rail line by adding about 16 trains to the rail line.
Concerning the Kano-Maradi line and Port Harcourt-Maiduguri rail line, the former Rivers State governor revealed that work is expected to commence by the end of January.
