Prison breaks are not s thing to celebrate, except for the culprits who relish the joy of acquiring lost freedom.

Nigeria has a history of prison breaks and below are the top 6 prison breaks in Nigeria.

1 – Ogun prison break

It was reported that Sagamu minimum prison in the southwestern Nigerian city of Ogun State were attacked On 4 January 2013, resulting in the escape of 20 prisoners leaving several prison officials and other prisoners injured.

According to reports, four escapees were rearrested by the Armed Squad of the Prison Service.

2 – Ondo prison break

The incident took place at the Olokuta Medium Security Prison in Akure, the Ondo State capital on 30 June 2013.

The facility was attacked by 50 unknown gunmen suspected to be Armed robbers. About 175 prisoners escaped, leaving 2 people dead and 1 warder injured.

About 54 escapee were rearrested.

3 – Bauchi prison break

On 7 September 2010, a prison break was reported in Bauchi prison in the northern Nigerian city of Bauchi by 50 gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram.

Reportrs suggest that the raid resulted in the escape of 721 prisoners, leaving 5 people dead with 6 injured persons.

4 – Ekiti prison break

The Ekiti state prison break took place on the 30th of November 2014. The federal prison was attacked by 60 unknown gunmen, an attack which resulted in the escape of 341 prisoners leaving one prison official dead.

About 10 prisoners were recaptured during the attack and 67 escapee was rearrested thereafter.

5 – Minna prison break

According to reports, the Minna prison was attacked On 6 December 2014, about a week after the Ekiti prison break.

The Minna medium prison was attacked by 3 unknown gunmen suspected to be armed robbers, resulting in the escape of 270 prisoners leaving 1 security officer injured with no death recorded.
