The President of the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), Fred Amata, has taken dynamic steps to overhaul film production in Nigeria to celebrate its 20 years’ anniversary; in order to position it towards professionalism, entrepreneurship and competitiveness.
According to the DGN PRO, Perekeme Odon, activities for the anniversary slated for March 2020 began with identifying the pressing needs of the movie industry.
He noted that one of the steps taken by DGN was to confer the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, as the Grand Patron of DGN and Imperial Majesty of Nollywood.
“DGN President, Fred Amata said the purpose of the conferment was to identify with the great land and the king in the service to creativity.
“Our purpose is to felicitate and identify with this great land and King in the service to our creativity, humanity and provision of assistance to professional filmmaking in Nigeria.
“Thank you for accepting DGN as we believe this synergy and bonding mark a new positive beginning for continuous support and encouragement to better the Guild and the Nigerian movie industry .” he said.
The Ooni of Ife thanked the DGN for the honour bestowed on him and tasked them to come up with an improved method of taking the movie industry to another level.
He added that DGN, in achieving its aim to re-position the movie industry, had taken proactive steps by organizing workshops and seminars alongside Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board to fight piracy.
