Nigeria’s Afrobeat sensation, Tiwa Savage, has finally addressed the controversy surrounding her recent statement about considering the role of a second wife.
The award-winning singer revealed that her words, which went viral on social media, were born out of a moment of emotional truth rather than an actual desire to embrace polygamy.
The 45-year-old artist explained that her experiences with love have been deeply personal and, at times, painful.
She noted that those emotional scars sometimes find their way into her public expressions, sparking conversations she never intended to start.
Reflecting on her past marriage, Tiwa Savage spoke candidly about how it shaped her perception of relationships.
According to her, being a first and only wife did not protect her from heartbreak or disappointment.
She said, “I was a first wife, where did that get me? I got married as the only wife, but here we are. I’m tired of being heartbroken; maybe I’m getting it wrong. Maybe I should try being a second wife.”
However, Tiwa was quick to set the record straight, clarifying that her remark was not an endorsement of polygamy. To avoid misinterpretation, she emphasized that becoming a second wife is not something she desires. The singer added, “It’s not my choice, though. I don’t want to. I wish I could tell my truth, but I will be dragged.”
