The 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for neglecting northern Nigeria, alleging that national resources are being disproportionately directed toward the southern part of the country, where the president originates.

Kwankwaso, a prominent figure in Kano politics, made the remarks on Thursday during the Kano State Stakeholders’ Dialogue on the 2025 Constitutional Amendment.

“Let me advise the Federal Government on the distribution of federal resources. From the information available to us, it’s like most of the national budget is now tilting in one direction in this country,” he said.

The former governor of Kano State also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of unfairly allocating limited resources between Nigeria’s northern and southern regions.

“Let me advise those who are struggling by all means to take everything to remember that some of the issues that we have in this part of the country today have to do with the lack of enough resources and mismanagement of the little that comes in. That is why we have insecurity, we have poverty and so on. It is happening here mainly, but like a desert, it would go everywhere,” he added.

Kwankwaso pointed out that many roads in the northern region remain in poor condition, even as the APC-led government continues to allocate significant budgetary funds for infrastructure projects in the south.

He called on the Tinubu administration to improve its approach and ensure a fair distribution of scarce resources to foster development across all regions of the country.
