Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, has taken a swipe at opposition leaders following the African Democratic Congress’ weak performance in the recently concluded by-elections.
In a post shared on his X account on Monday, Onanuga uploaded a photo featuring former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
The image was captioned: “How is the market now?”
The remark, widely interpreted as a jab at the opposition, comes amid ongoing discussions about the relevance and strength of opposition coalitions in Nigeria’s current political climate.
Several opposition leaders reportedly backed the ADC during the by-elections in a move perceived as a strategy to assess their political influence ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
The ruling All Progressives Congress secured the majority of contested seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party and the New Nigerian Peoples Party also made some gains.
