Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has said it would be “evil” for Deltans to reject President Bola Tinubu at the polls in 2027, citing the president’s family ties to the state through First Lady Remi Tinubu.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE TV on Tuesday, Oborevwori argued that Tinubu enjoys a special relationship with Delta State, describing the president as an in-law whose connection should earn him the support of voters across the state.
“Among the candidates that emerged, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the only one who has an affiliation to Delta state. The man is an in-law here, and it would be evil to vote against your in-law. It’s a family affair,” Mr Oborevwori said. “In the South-South, the people in Delta are saying this is their own. They were deceived before; now they can’t.”
The governor maintained that support for the president would cut across major ethnic groups in the state, noting the influence of the First Lady and the growing acceptance of Tinubu among the people.
“The first lady (Remi Tinubu) is holding the state strong, and no Itsekiri person will vote against Tinubu. No Urhobo man will because their son is the governor.”
Despite the Labour Party’s victory in the 2023 presidential election in Delta State, Oborevwori expressed confidence that the political tide would shift in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
“This time I have told them not to vote on an individual basis but to vote for the party. I am confident they will vote for the APC.”
