President Bola Tinubu on Saturday arrived in Bauchi State to commiserate with the state government and the family of the late Islamic scholar, Dahiru Usman-Bauchi.
Usman-Bauchi, who was the leader of the Tijjaniyya Brotherhood in Nigeria, passed away on November 27.
The president touched down at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport at about 4:10 p.m. and was accorded a Guard of Honour by the Nigerian Air Force.
He arrived in the state alongside Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala-Buni; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; his son, Seyi Tinubu, and other members of his entourage.
Tinubu was received by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed; Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang; Coordinating Minister of Health, Muhammad Ali Pate; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; and Senator Shehu Buba (APC–Bauchi South).
The president is expected to depart for Lagos after the condolence visit to spend the forthcoming end-of-year holidays.
Usman-Bauchi died at the age of 98 on November 27 at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBU-TH), Bauchi, and was laid to rest on Friday, November 28, in line with Islamic rites.
The late scholar, a recipient of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR), was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential Islamic clerics, known for his depth of knowledge, spiritual leadership and decades-long dedication to the propagation of Islam.
Born in 1927 in Gombe, Usman-Bauchi dedicated his life to the promotion of Islamic education, peaceful coexistence and national unity.
His teachings, which emphasized moral discipline, tolerance and strict adherence to Islamic values, earned him a large following and widespread respect within and outside the country.
He was also noted for his contributions to community development, mentorship of younger scholars and efforts to deepen religious understanding.
