President Bola Tinubu is set to travel to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Sunday, January 26, 2025, to attend the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit scheduled for January 27-28.
The Summit, organized by the Tanzanian government in partnership with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank, aims to advance “Mission 300,” a campaign to provide electricity access to 300 million people across Africa by 2030.
According to a statement by the President’s Special Adviser, Bayo Onanuga, the Summit will bring together African leaders, private sector stakeholders, development partners, and civil society organizations to discuss solutions to the continent’s energy challenges.
The event will focus on improving energy access in underserved areas, promoting renewable energy, enhancing energy efficiency, and encouraging private sector investment.
On the first day, participating nations, including Nigeria, will present their energy strategies, called “compacts,” outlining plans to achieve universal energy access within five years.
On the second day, the Heads of State will endorse the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which will provide a unified plan for Africa’s progress towards the Mission 300 goals.
President Tinubu is expected to deliver a national statement at the Summit, where he will reaffirm Nigeria’s dedication to achieving universal energy access and its commitment to leading in Africa’s energy sector. He will also showcase Nigeria’s ongoing clean energy projects and its broader strategy for integrated energy delivery across the continent.
Accompanying the President on the trip are Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, Special Adviser to the President on Energy Olu Verheijen, and other senior government officials.
President Tinubu will return to Abuja after the Summit.
