President Bola Tinubu will address the nation on Wednesday, October 1, as Nigeria marks its 65th Independence anniversary.

A statement released on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the nationwide broadcast will begin at 7 a.m.

The statement, titled “2025 Independence Anniversary: President Tinubu Addresses The Nation,” directed all television and radio stations, as well as other electronic media platforms, to connect with the Nigerian Television Authority and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria for the live transmission.

Independence Day speeches usually give presidents an opportunity to reflect on national challenges, highlight achievements, set policy directions, and assure citizens of unity and stability.

In his 2023 Independence Day message, Tinubu had stressed economic reforms, the removal of fuel subsidy, and stronger efforts against insecurity. By 2024, his address appealed for patience from Nigerians, promising that ongoing sacrifices would bring long-term benefits.

This year’s broadcast is expected to focus on economic recovery, security operations, and key infrastructure projects, while also reflecting on Nigeria’s journey since independence in 1960.

Nigeria, which gained independence from Britain on October 1, 1960, commemorates the day each year with official ceremonies, parades, and presidential speeches.
