President Bola Tinubu has announced the scrapping of the Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports Development.

This decision was made during a Federal Executive Council meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, shared the news in a tweet on Wednesday. He said, “President Tinubu and Federal Executive Council scrap Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports Development.”

A new Ministry of Regional Development will now oversee all regional commissions, such as the Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, and North East Development Commission.

The responsibilities of the Ministry of Sports Development will be transferred to the National Sports Commission, which will now handle all sports-related activities in the country. “The National Sports Commission will take over the role of the Ministry of Sports,” Onanuga added.

Additionally, the FEC approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, forming a single ministry.
