President Bola Tinubu has dismissed the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and approved new appointments in the leadership of the Armed Forces following a recent foiled coup attempt.
A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, on Friday, said the shake-up was part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.
General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Musa. Major-General W. Shaibu is now the Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke becomes Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas takes over as Chief of Naval Staff.
Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye will continue as the Chief of Defence Intelligence.
Tinubu commended the outgoing service chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership” and urged the newly appointed officers to sustain professionalism and vigilance in safeguarding the nation.
“The newly appointed Service Chiefs must justify the confidence reposed in them and further enhance the professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” the President said.
All appointments take immediate effect.
