Tinubu reshuffles NERC board, Oseni named chairman

NERC set to sanction seven DisCos

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission following the confirmation of its members by the Senate on December 16, 2025.

Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni has been appointed as the new Chairman of NERC, while Yusuf Ali will serve as Vice Chairman.

Other members appointed as Commissioners are Nathan Rogers Shatti, Dafe Akpeneye, Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello, Dr. Chidi Ike and Dr. Fouad Animashaun.

The appointments were confirmed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, Oseni assumed office as Chairman on December 1, 2025. He was first appointed as a NERC Commissioner in January 2017 and later served as Vice Chairman. His tenure as Chairman will run until the completion of his statutory ten-year term, in line with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.

Yusuf Ali, who was first appointed as a Commissioner in February 2022, also assumed office as Vice Chairman on December 1, 2025, and will serve for the remainder of his first term.

Shatti and Akpeneye are serving their second terms as Commissioners, having been initially appointed in January 2017. Aisha Bello is also on her second term, following her first appointment in December 2020.

Dr. Chidi Ike, appointed in February 2022, is currently serving his first term on the commission.

Dr. Fouad Animashaun joins the board for his first term, effective December 2025. He is an energy economist with long-standing experience in Nigeria’s power sector and was until recently the Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

President Tinubu has charged the reconstituted board to strengthen and sustain ongoing reforms in the power sector, in line with the objectives and provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.
