The new Education Minister, Dr. Morufu Alausa, has assured students that the country’s current “difficult” reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s administration are for their benefit and will secure their future.

Alausa made this statement on Monday during a visit to Queens College Lagos, where he addressed students during their morning assembly.

One of the oldest schools in the country, Queen’s College is a government-owned girls’ secondary founded during the colonial era in 1927.

“The reforms have put so much emphasis on your future and the future of the children you are going to have. Nigeria is on the right path,” he said.

He explained that the president’s decisions, though tough, are designed to build a stronger and more prosperous nation for the next generation.

“This president is making difficult decisions that past leaders have not been able to take. The decisions he is taking today are what will create an endearing Nigeria for you and the future generation to come after you. The president has your future on the top burner.”

The minister also engaged students, encouraging them to share ideas on how the government could improve education. “Feel free to let us know what you think the government should be doing to help in terms of your education. I need to hear from you about how we can make your life better, improve the infrastructure here, and get more teachers to teach you,” he said.

Highlighting his priorities for the education sector, Dr. Alausa said there would be a strong focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), as well as medical sciences.

“We are pushing for more STEM and medical sciences. We want to equip you for the next century,” he added.

Alausa also praised the students and teachers of Queens College for their efforts and achievements. “I am happy with what I have seen here today. Congratulations to your teachers,” he said.
