The wife of the late MKO Abiola, Zainab Duke-Abiola, has declared that President Bola Tinubu is set to surpass United States President Donald Trump in international negotiations, praising his leadership and economic reforms.
In a statement issued on Friday, Ms. Duke-Abiola applauded Tinubu’s administration for repaying Nigeria’s $3.4 billion debt to the International Monetary Fund, describing the achievement as the result of “careful strategic planning and unwavering commitment to improving Nigeria’s socio-economic rating globally.”
She called the debt repayment a landmark development, crediting Tinubu’s visionary leadership and meticulous economic management for positioning Nigeria on a path to sustainable growth and development.
“The toga of indebtedness to the IMF has been removed just like Singapore and Switzerland, which hold some of the strongest passports in the world,” she said.
“Nigeria is truly free from neo-colonial shackles. We are free at last.”
Ms. Duke-Abiola highlighted the steady reduction of Nigeria’s IMF debt under Tinubu’s watch, noting that the debt stood at $1.61 billion when he assumed office in 2023 and was fully repaid by May 2025.
“President Tinubu’s leadership is yielding results. Nigeria is not just settling debts but setting the pace for a new era of fiscal responsibility, infrastructural development and better social service delivery,” she said.
Reflecting on her experience during the 2023 elections, she spoke of false allegations made against her but expressed gratitude for being vindicated. “When I was mobilising nationwide voters for President Tinubu, some people were angry and decided to get a former orderly to frame me that I asked a cook to assault an orderly. I thank God for my complete vindication and exoneration,” she noted.
Ms. Duke-Abiola also compared Tinubu to other global leaders, stating, “The world should watch out because Tinubu is a president poised to surpass Donald Trump of the U.S. in international negotiations and surpass Ibrahim Traore of Burkina Faso. I know all this because I have known his patriotic mindset for over 30 years.”
She concluded by urging Nigerians to remain calm and confident, describing President Tinubu as an “angel of restoration” who came prepared to lead the nation toward progress.
