Tinubu pledges support for next census

Published

President Bola Tinubu has said that the National Population Commission will receive support from the federal government in conducting the next census.

The president made the announcement on Wednesday at the launch of the National Geospatial Data Repository and Digital Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System at the State House in Abuja.

He said that accurate and reliable information on the size, distribution, composition, and characteristics of the population is essential for planning purposes and for the efficient provision of public services to Nigerians.

President Tinubu also said that Nigeria’s population continues to be its most valuable resource as it pursues its goal of becoming one of the world’s largest economies.

Coming at a time when the Commission has made substantial progress in its quest to deliver the first digital population and housing census, it is my hope that the result of the census will provide the nation with much-needed data for development planning and the enthronement of good governance,” he said.

However, the president did not announce a specific date for the next census.
