President Bola Tinubu has greenlit an investment of $700 million for seven road projects aimed at enhancing business activities and logistics services at the Lekki Deep Sea Port.
The Chairman of the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Abiodun Dabiri, shared this information during the arrival of the largest container carrier, ‘Maersk Edirne,’ at the Lekki Deep Seaport.
The vessel, measuring 367 meters in length and 48.2 meters in breadth, marked a significant event for the port.
Dabiri highlighted the importance of the road projects, stating, “The roads are clearly going to be a game changer; it is going to be about $700 million. It will facilitate the evacuation of goods and services into the hinterland, and we can’t wait for it to happen.”
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who attended the occasion as the special guest of honor, expressed his enthusiasm for the port’s developments.
He shared the news on his official X account, stating, “The LNG-powered CMA CGM SCANDOLA, a 14,812 TEUs container vessel, has made history by berthing at the Lekki Deep Sea Port.”
Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the historic significance of the event, positioning Lagos and Nigeria as major players in global port transactions.
He praised the accomplishments of Lekki Port in its first year, emphasizing its transformative role in the maritime industry.
Highlighting the economic goals set by President Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu reiterated the critical role of maritime and port business in achieving a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
He stated, “This is a business that has been a privilege to a few countries, but now, the Lekki Freeport and the Lekki Port itself have put and enshrined our name as one of the big movers of port transactions in the world.”
The Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited, a joint venture enterprise, plays a pivotal role in the development of the Lekki Port, with ownership divided among Lekki Port Investment Holdings Inc, the Lagos State Government, and the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Nigerian Ports Authority.
