In a rare public encounter abroad, President Bola Tinubu, Labour Party presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi, and former Ekiti State Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi shared a lighthearted moment during the installation mass of Pope Leo XIV on Sunday in Rome.

Dr. Fayemi, upon noticing President Tinubu seated among other dignitaries, approached Mr. Obi and encouraged him to join in paying respects to the Nigerian leader. Mr. Obi obliged.

As they reached the President, Fayemi initiated the exchange by saying:
“Mr. President, welcome to our church, and thank you for honouring the Pope with your presence.”

President Tinubu responded in a jovial tone:
“I should be the one welcoming you and Peter. I’m the Head of the Nigerian Delegation.”

The remark elicited laughter from Mr. Obi, who replied:
“Yes, indeed. We are members of your delegation.”

Both Obi and Fayemi, known to be devout Catholics and Papal knights, attended the solemn religious ceremony, marking a notable moment of civility and unity among political figures in an international setting.
