President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The nomination was disclosed on Wednesday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Onanuga explained that the appointment remains subject to confirmation by the Senate.
He noted that the nomination was made in line with Section 8(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.
The statement added that Yuguda’s nomination followed the recent appointment of the former CBN Deputy Governor, Bala Bello, as Special Adviser to the President on Political Economy.
President Tinubu urged the appointees to carry out their duties with renewed commitment, professionalism, and dedication toward strengthening Nigeria’s economic stability and growth.
Before the new nomination, Yuguda most recently served as Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (Nigeria) from 2020 to 2024.
He graduated in 1983 with a B.Sc. in Accountancy from Ahmadu Bello University.
He later obtained a master’s degree in Money, Banking and Finance in 1991 from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom.
Yuguda is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification.
He began his professional career at the Central Bank of Nigeria in 1984, working as a Senior Supervisor in the Foreign Operations Department. Between 1997 and 2001, he served as an economist in the Africa Department of the International Monetary Fund before returning to the CBN.
Yuguda retired from the apex bank in 2016 after six years as Director of the Reserve Management Department.
