President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, making her the first woman to head the institution since it was established in 1962.

The appointment was confirmed in a statement issued by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the appointment will take effect from January 10, 2026, and will run for a four-year term.

Dr Odusote, who is 54 years old, is currently the Deputy Director-General of the Nigerian Law School and Head of its Lagos Campus. She will take over from the outgoing Director-General, Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose tenure ends on January 9, 2026, after eight years in office.

Onanuga said the appointment marked a historic milestone for the Nigerian Law School.

He stated that Odusote “will become the first female Director-General of the Nigerian Law School since its establishment in 1962.”

Dr Odusote obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She also earned a Master of Laws degree from the same university, with a specialisation in company and commercial law.

She later obtained a doctorate degree in Law from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, with research interests in public law and the administration of justice.

Odusote joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer and has since risen through the ranks. She has served as Head of the Academic Department, Director of Academics and Head of Campus at different times.

She was also a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the United Kingdom for a brief period.

The new Director-General has published widely in both local and international law journals and has presented papers at several legal education conferences. She has also served on committees of the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.

As Director-General, Odusote will oversee the academic leadership, administrative management and strategic direction of the Nigerian Law School across all its campuses.

She will also serve as the main link between the institution and key legal bodies, including the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers and the Nigerian Bar Association.
