Tinubu mourns retired S’court Justice Argungu

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of retired Supreme Court Justice Uthman Argungu, describing his death as a great personal and national loss.

Justice Argungu, who passed away at the age of 90, was buried on Sunday in his hometown of Argungu, Kebbi State, following Islamic rites.

In a tribute, President Tinubu hailed the late elder statesman as a distinguished jurist who served Nigeria with integrity and dedication.

“Justice Argungu lived a life devoted to humanity and the service of his country with unmatched integrity and commitment,” Tinubu stated.

The President shared his heartfelt condolences with Argungu’s family, the government, and the people of Kebbi State. He also offered prayers for the repose of his soul.

“This is indeed a moment of grief, but we take solace in the remarkable life and legacy he left behind,” he added.

In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu outlined Justice Argungu’s illustrious career.

He began as a teacher in the old Sokoto Province before transitioning to law, being called to the bar in 1965. His career peaked in 1993 with his appointment as a Supreme Court Justice.

Argungu also served as a visiting justice at the Supreme Court of the Gambia, showcasing his influence beyond Nigeria’s borders.

Justice Argungu was not only a respected legal expert but also a cherished associate of the President. His contributions to the judiciary and the legal profession remain invaluable.

Tinubu concluded by praising Argungu’s enduring legacy and urged the nation to honour his memory.

“This is a profound loss, but his remarkable life of service and integrity will forever inspire us,” Tinubu said.
