President Bola Tinubu has ordered Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Agencies to limit their official convoys to a maximum of three vehicles.

The directive, which was issued on Thursday, is part of efforts to reduce government spending.

In a statement titled, “President Tinubu Issues New Directives on Reduction in Cost of Governance,” the President made it clear that no additional vehicles would be provided for official movements.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, explained, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, “The cost-cutting measure was announced today in a statement signed by the President.”

The directive follows an earlier move by President Tinubu in January 2024, aimed at reducing government expenses. At that time, he cut the size of his entourage for foreign trips from 50 to 20 officials and reduced the number to 25 for local trips. Similarly, the Vice President’s entourage was limited to five officials for foreign trips and 15 for local ones.

In the latest directive, Tinubu also restricted the number of security personnel for Ministers and agency heads to five. “The security team will consist of four police officers and one Department of State Services officer,” the statement added.

Additionally, the President instructed the National Security Adviser to collaborate with the Military, Paramilitary, and Security Agencies to find a suitable reduction in the number of vehicles and security personnel assigned to them.

The Presidency emphasized that all officials affected must comply immediately, underscoring the importance of these changes.
