President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the weekend suicide bombing in Konduga, Borno State, alongside the lynching of 12 wedding guests traveling from Zaria, Kaduna State, to Jos, Plateau State.
In a statement released on Sunday by his Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president expressed deep sorrow over the Konduga attack, describing it as cowardly.
He mourned the loss of lives and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to eliminate the remnants of Boko Haram insurgents who target soft civilian areas as a diversion.
President Tinubu also extended his condolences to the government and people of Borno State and directed the National Emergency Management Agency to provide assistance to survivors.
Additionally, the president sympathized with families affected by an explosion at a scrap metal factory in Kano on Saturday morning.
The blast injured 15 people and claimed five lives. Stressing the importance of workplace safety, he called on relevant government bodies to investigate the incident thoroughly.
On the same day, President Tinubu condemned the killing of 12 wedding guests in Plateau State, including the father and brother of the groom.
The victims were traveling from Zaria to Jos when they were attacked. In a separate statement from presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the president described the killings as barbaric and unacceptable.
He directed the Nigerian Police Force to collaborate with other security and intelligence agencies to apprehend those responsible and bring them to justice. Calling for calm, Tinubu vowed that such acts would not go unpunished.
“The Government of Plateau State must take decisive action in handling these vicious cycles of violence. The state government must work with security agents to get to the root of this recent incident and use it as a deterrent against future occurrences,” he said.
“The freedom of movement by all citizens is non-negotiable. We will not tolerate any attempt by anyone or group of people to curtail that fundamental freedom through acts of extreme violence and fear.”
The president also extended his sympathies to the victims’ families as well as the people and government of Kaduna State.
