Tinubu appoints new chairman for code of conduct bureau

President Bola Tinubu has named Dr. Abdullahi Bello as the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, awaiting confirmation by the Senate.

Bello succeeds Prof Isah Mohammed, who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in November 2018.

Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, conveyed the appointment in a statement released on Thursday, titled ‘President Tinubu appoints new Chairman of Code of Conduct Bureau.’

Ngelale described Bello as “A consummate professional with more than 25 years of work experience in consulting, banking, law enforcement, financial services, and academia.”

Established in 1979, the Code of Conduct Bureau received its legal mandate in 1989 under the Babangida regime. The Bureau’s responsibilities include receiving asset declarations by public officers, examining these declarations, and ensuring their availability for public inspection.

Tinubu expressed his expectations for the new Chairman, pending Senate confirmation, to lead the Bureau with integrity in upholding public morality in government affairs.

“The new Chairman must ensure that the actions and behavior of public officers conform to the highest standards of morality and accountability,” the statement added.
