Tinubu appoints CEOs for major health agencies

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment and reappointments of board chairpersons and Chief Executive Officers in key institutions under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

This move is aimed at improving Nigerian public health standards and strengthening the commitment to provide affordable and quality healthcare.

The statement from the Presidency emphasized Tinubu’s determination to bring world-class standards to Nigerian public health administration.

The statement partly reads “The President expects that the new leadership across this critical human development sector will substantially raise the standards of healthcare service delivery for the exclusive benefit of all strata of the Nigerian population as his administration is committed to implementing a whole-of-government approach to transforming the sector to enhance the aggregate national quality of life and productivity”

The appointees will play a crucial role in ensuring regulatory frameworks that align with international best practices.

The appointees and reappointees for various health agencies are as follows:

1. National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC):

  • Board Chairperson: Mansur Kabir
  • CEO: Moji Adeyeye

2. National Blood Service Commission (NBSC):

  • Board Chairperson: Abba Zubairu
  • CEO: Saleh Yuguda

3. Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN):

  • Board Chairperson: Afolabi Lesi
  • CEO: Fatima Kyari

4. Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN):

  • Board Chairperson: Wasilat Giwa
  • CEO: Ibrahim Ahmed

5. Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN):

  • Board Chairperson: Babajide Salako
  • CEO: Tosan Erhabor

6. Moddibo Adama University Teaching Hospital, Yola (MAUTH):

  • Chief Medical Director / CEO: Adamu G. Bakari

7. Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua (ISTH):

  • Chief Medical Director / CEO: Reuben Eifediyi

Additionally, a new CEO has been appointed for the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), who will assume office on February 19, 2024:

  • Director-General / CEO: Olajide Idris

The President, in selecting the appointees, considered their wealth of experience.

The President expects that the new leadership will substantially raise healthcare service delivery standards for the benefit of all Nigerians.
