Tinubu appoints Bayelsa monarch as Chancellor of maritime varsity
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, through his representative, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, appointed the Amanyanabo of Twon Brass Kingdom of Bayelsa State, King Alfred Papapreye Diette-Spiff, Seriya II, as the Chancellor of the Nigeria Maritime University during its maiden convocation ceremony in Okerenkoko, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.
In recognition of their significant contributions, the university conferred a Doctor of Philosophy in Education (Honoris Causa) on ex-militant leader, High Chief Oweizide Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, and a Doctor of Letters on King Alfred Papapreye Diette-Spiff.
After his installation as Chancellor, King Alfred Papapreye Diette-Spiff expressed commitment to transforming NMU into a world-leading institution. “I assure you that I will ensure the transformation of NMU into a leading institution in the world,” he stated.
Tinubu, in an address presented at the convocation, conveyed awareness of the university’s vision to be the maritime institution of first choice and contribute to employment and wealth creation in the global maritime economy.
He expressed optimism about the university’s potential achievements in building the country’s capacity in maritime technology and business.
“I am not unaware of the challenges and constraints that this university is currently contending with. But I can assure you that this government will continue to do our best to ensure your needs,” Tinubu stated.
