President Bola Tinubu has nominated 39-year-old Engr. Dr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.

Ramat, a certified electrical engineer with a PhD in Strategic Management, is expected to bring fresh oversight to one of Nigeria’s most important regulatory bodies. He replaces Sanusi Garba as NERC chairman.

The appointment was announced on Thursday in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

To prevent a leadership gap, the President has directed that Ramat assume office immediately in an acting capacity, pending Senate confirmation.

In the same statement, Tinubu also forwarded two other nominations to the Senate: Abubakar Yusuf as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun as Commissioner for Finance and Management Services.

According to Onanuga, the nominations are part of the President’s plan to inject youthful expertise and reform-minded leadership into the power sector.

Tinubu urged the new appointees to use their experience to push reforms that align with the government’s goal of achieving stable and sustainable electricity access across the country.
