Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has revealed that he nearly lost his position at the Presidency over the alleged involvement of Lagos lawmaker Desmond Elliot in the political crisis that engulfed the Lagos State House of Assembly earlier this year.

Gbajabiamila made the disclosure during a meeting with All Progressives Congress stakeholders in Lagos, where he recounted how President Bola Tinubu confronted him during the controversy surrounding the impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

According to him, Tinubu questioned him over reports linking Elliot to moves against Obasa, allegedly telling him, “I hear this Desmond is your boy.”

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives said he initially defended Elliot and denied claims that the Surulere lawmaker was involved in the crisis. However, he said Tinubu insisted that security reports suggested otherwise and warned that Elliot should “retrace his steps.”

Gbajabiamila explained that the situation became serious because of his long standing political relationship with Elliot, who represents Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

“I almost lost my job as Chief of Staff to the president because of Desmond Elliot,” Gbajabiamila said in the now viral clip from the gathering.

The crisis in the Lagos Assembly began in January 2025 after lawmakers removed former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa over allegations of misconduct and abuse of office. The development triggered political tensions within the Lagos chapter of the APC before Obasa was eventually reinstated following interventions by party leaders.

The revelation has since stirred reactions online, with many Nigerians debating the extent of political loyalty and influence within the Lagos political structure.
