Popular Nigerian singer Timaya has raised concerns over the destruction of farmlands in Bayelsa State by herdsmen.

The Afrobeats star, who hails from Bayelsa, took to social media on Tuesday to call on the government to take urgent action.

“Please, the government should do something. They are destroying farms in Bayelsa. Aboki, take your cow inside and feed them. This is so sad,” he wrote on X.

Timaya also spoke against open grazing, urging herders to keep their cattle in ranches instead of allowing them to roam freely and damage farmlands.

The singer’s concerns come shortly after women from Yenizue-Gene and Okutukutu communities in Yenagoa Local Government Area staged a protest against herdsmen.

The women, carrying placards, barricaded the Melford Okilo Road, accusing herdsmen of harassing, assaulting, and destroying their farms. They demanded that the anti-open grazing law be enforced and those responsible be punished.

The Niger Delta Peoples Movement also condemned the activities of herdsmen in the Niger Delta, including killings and destruction of property. The group called for urgent government intervention to stop further violence in the region.

Many Nigerians have continued to call for stricter measures to control open grazing and protect farmers from destruction and attacks.
