It is no longer news that English football legend, Steven Gerrard, has retired from professional football. But the memories from his stellar career lingers.
The iconic former Liverpool captain announced his retirement on Thursday much to the chagrin of football followers and observers worldwide, as many believe it is a sad day for football.
The ex-England captain, who bossed over 500 caps for the Reds during a 19-year career last played in the Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States.
In 2001, his Liverpool side defeated a Pep Guardiola-inspired Barcelona by 1-0 and the then youngster tried to shake hands with the former Barca coach, but was ignored.
Guardiola is now the coach of Manchester City after achieving success coaching Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich in Germany.
