Three people have lost their lives and six others were injured on Wednesday morning in a crash involving five vehicles along the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.
The South-West Area Commander of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Mr Adekunle Ajibade, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria in Ota.
Ajibade said the crash happened around 7:45 a.m. near the Sango Ota tollgate.
According to him, a cement truck with no registration number was speeding towards the tollgate when it reportedly had a brake failure and crashed into four other vehicles.
“The crash claimed three lives and left six people with various injuries,” Ajibade said.
He explained that the injured victims were taken to Ifo General Hospital in Ogun State, where they are currently receiving treatment. The bodies of the deceased have also been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
Ajibade advised motorists to always check and maintain their vehicles properly before hitting the road. He also warned drivers against speeding and reckless driving.
“Motorists should always ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before putting them on the road. Drivers should also stop excessive speed and reckless driving to prevent unnecessary loss of lives,” he said.
TRACE officials have since removed the affected vehicles from the road to ease traffic flow along the busy expressway.
