Three members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, who were elected under the Peoples Democratic Party, have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress along with their supporters.

The lawmakers—Henry Mara (Jaba Constituency), Emmanuel Kantiok (Zonkwa Constituency), and Samuel Kambai (Zango Constituency)—announced their defection on Thursday in their respective wards.

Speaking to journalist, they said their decision was influenced by the leadership and achievements of Governor Uba Sani.

The lawmakers explained that joining the APC would allow them to better serve their people, as the ruling party controls the state government.

Henry Mara, who represents Jaba Constituency, said the PDP’s influence in Southern Kaduna was weakening.

“A major realignment in the power structure of the State House of Assembly is looming as we’re expecting more opposition members to dump the PDP for APC,” he said.

Samuel Kambai, representing Zango Constituency, stated that the governor’s performance had changed people’s perception of the ruling party.

“Governor Uba Sani’s commendable achievements within two years are responsible for the decline in opposition parties.

“Southern Kaduna has been a stronghold of the opposition PDP since 1999, but today, that jinx has been altered by Governor Uba Sani’s credible leadership,” he added.

Emmanuel Kantiok, the lawmaker from Zonkwa Constituency, acknowledged the security challenges in the state but praised the governor for improving stability.

“The state has faced escalating insecurity in the past eight years, but today, there is relative peace. I promise to consolidate Governor Sani’s existing performance,” he said.

Their defection comes just two days after Amos Magaji, the lawmaker representing Zangon Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, also left the PDP for the APC.

With these recent movements, Mara predicted that more opposition lawmakers would leave the PDP for the ruling party in the coming months,
