No fewer than three people were injured in a tanker explosion along Numan Road in Jimeta, Yola, Adamawa State.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday evening, caused panic but thankfully no lives were lost, according to officials.

The Police and the Federal Fire Service in Adamawa confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria in Yola. Aliyu Abubakar, a Deputy Superintendent of Fire at the Federal Fire Service, stated that the service received a distress call about the fire at 7:30 p.m. and responded immediately.

“While there were no fatalities, three persons sustained various degrees of injuries,” Abubakar said. He explained that multiple agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, and both state and Faro fire stations, worked together to control the fire.

The firefighting team was able to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby fuel stations. However, two tankers and a vehicle were affected by the fire.

“We did our best to ensure that no lives were lost, no fuel pump or storage compartment was damaged, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire,” Abubakar added.

He also warned members of the public to stay away from fire incidents, as explosions could happen at any moment.

Similarly, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Adamawa State Police Command, confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident. He said the police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion.

“The immediate response from our operational unit, along with that of the firefighters, helped bring the fire under control,” Nguroje said. He added, “We welcome any useful information that may aid our investigation and remain committed to safeguarding lives and property in the state.”

The quick response from emergency services helped prevent a potentially worse disaster, especially with fuel stations nearby. Officials are urging the public to remain cautious and report any suspicious activities that could lead to such incidents.
