Three lives were lost, and three individuals have been arrested following a clash between rival cult groups in the Sagamu area of Ogun State.

The Ogun State Police Command, in a statement released on Monday, confirmed the fatalities, shedding light on the violent confrontation in the Agbowa area of Sagamu.

Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, identified the arrested suspects as Oluwatosin Adeniro, Adebayo Oluwasun, and Segun Ademola.

The genesis of the clash was described in the statement: “During a routine weekend patrol in Sagamu, by the Divisional Police Officer on Sunday, 12th November 2023, an intelligence was intercepted by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) from a concerned citizen with a private identity.”

According to Odutola, the intelligence indicated that a group of unknown individuals, suspected to be cultists, had entered the Agbowa area, instigating trouble and leading to a clash with a rival cult group.

Acting promptly on the intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer mobilized a patrol team to the scene.

Upon arrival, the patrol team discovered three unidentified young men lying lifeless in a pool of blood, having sustained gunshot wounds to their heads.

The victims were rushed to Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital in Sagamu, where a doctor pronounced them dead. Their bodies were subsequently conveyed to the morgue.

Cordoning off the crime scene, the police recovered eight expended cartridges, one live cartridge, and one Samsung phone.

State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has directed the deployment of additional personnel to instill confidence among residents and maintain peace and order in and around Sagamu.

Despite the incident, the police urged Ogun residents to continue with their daily routines without fear, emphasizing their commitment to bringing the perpetrators of the crime to justice.
