A heavy rainstorm that lasted for three days caused severe damage to Natsinta village, located in the Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The downpour, which occurred from August 15th to 17th, destroyed at least 250 houses, leaving hundreds of residents without homes.

The disaster has left the community in a state of despair, as many residents lost not only their homes but also their essential belongings.

Hon. Mustafa Yusuf, the member representing Jibia Constituency in the Katsina State House of Assembly, visited the affected area on Saturday to assess the situation and offer support.

“I will seek immediate assistance from the state government for the victims,” Hon. Yusuf promised during his visit. He emphasized the urgent need for shelter, food, and other essential relief materials for those displaced by the disaster. He also called on government agencies, philanthropists, and individuals to help the affected residents.

A resident of the area, Mas’udu Lawal ‘Sarkin Yashi’, blamed the disaster on the lack of proper drainage systems. “The blockage of a crucial drainage channel worsened the situation,” he explained, highlighting the need for better infrastructure in the village.

Shamsu Hassan, a Councilor from the area, described the chaotic situation in the community, noting that many residents are struggling to find shelter. “The hardships are being compounded by poverty and food insecurity already affecting the people in this area,” he said.

While there were no reported deaths, some residents sustained injuries during the incident.

The District Head of Dadadara, Alhaji Usman Usman Nagoggo, expressed deep concern over the disaster and called for urgent intervention to assist those affected.
