Malam Sirajo Mohammed has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for causing the amputation of the two hands of his 12-year-old student, Zubair Abubakar, in Gombe State.
It was gathered that Abubakar allegedly stole a cellphone and Mohammed tied his hands up as punishment. This led to the cessation of bloodflow to the hands.
Doctors said they had to amputate the boy’s two hands because they had become infected and gangrenous.
Zubair was alleged to have stolen a cellphone, which made the head teacher of his school, Malam Sirajo Mohammed, to tie his hands as a punishment.
It was learnt, however, that the victim later developed an infection that led to complications, resulting in the amputation of his two hands at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe.
When the case came to Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo’s knowledge, he promised to settle all the medical bills incurred in the treatment of the child.
Father of the victim, Malam Yusha’u Abubakar, expressed appreciation to the governor for the financial and moral support given to his family.
He said that without the timely intervention of the state government, it would have been very difficult for the family to take care of all the medical bills.
