A court has sentenced a Chinese man to nine months imprisonment with hard labour for selling replica jerseys.
Huang Bing, who was arrested last month for selling 24 replicas valued at $350, bagged the sentence at a Lusaka court for selling replicas of Zambia’s national football kit.
Lusaka Magistrate Greenwell Malumani sentenced Bing after finding him guilty of selling goods bearing a false trademark.
In sentencing Bing, the magistrate said the offence amounted to theft.
“The trademark is patented and is a work of creativity so people can learn to be creative when their works are protected,” Malumani said.
“This is one case that should send a clear message especially for a foreign nationals that come to do business in Zambia.”
