The No. 4 Texas women’s basketball team showcased a balanced attack, with four players scoring in double digits, as they defeated No. 5 LSU 77-64 in a rematch of their earlier meeting.
Rori Harmon had a standout performance, recording six steals and breaking the Texas all-time steals record (351), a mark that had stood for 45 years under Linda Waggoner.
This marks Harmon’s second all-time record at Texas, as she previously became the program’s all-time assist leader.
She also surpassed 1,500 career points, becoming the 21st player in Texas history to reach that milestone.
Junior Madison Booker led the Longhorns in scoring with 18 points and added four assists.
Freshman Aaliyah Crump went 7-for-10 from the field, contributing 16 points and five rebounds, while junior Breya Cunningham added eight boards. Off the bench, Teya Sidberry chipped in 10 points for Texas.
Booker opened the game by scoring the first six points for the Longhorns. Texas’ defense applied pressure early, forcing a steal under their basket and a shot clock violation. Harmon reached her 1,500th career point on a midrange jumper with 6:14 remaining in the first quarter. Despite their efforts, Texas trailed LSU 17-13 at the end of the opening period.
The Longhorn offense kept the game competitive, tying the score at the 9:22 mark of the second quarter.
Both teams exchanged baskets throughout the period before Texas took the lead on a 3-pointer by Booker. Harmon notched her first steal of the game, tying the all-time Texas steals record, and a 6-0 run gave Texas its largest lead at that point.
By halftime, Booker had 12 points, and Crump led the team with 11 points in the second quarter, helping Texas carry a 40-36 lead into the break.
Justice Carlton scored four points to start the second half, while Cunningham grabbed five rebounds. Harmon recorded her 347th career steal, officially surpassing the Texas all-time record.
Texas maintained its lead through the third quarter, finishing 57-53 ahead.
The Longhorns opened the fourth quarter with a 10-0 run, highlighted by six consecutive points from Kyla Oldacre.
Texas limited LSU to just 11 points in the fourth quarter and 28 points in the second half to secure the victory.
Texas will host No. 16 Kentucky on Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. CT at Moody Center, with the game set to air on the SEC Network.
