The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed a terrorist attack on Tsamiya town on Saturday night, resulting in the destruction of property and the abduction of a resident.
Security operatives have since intensified efforts in the area following the incident.
According to the command, heavily armed attackers invaded the community late Saturday, firing gunshots indiscriminately and setting multiple structures on fire.
Among the properties destroyed were a makeshift checkpoint belonging to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, a local brothel, and the residence of a community member identified as Sule Mai Goge. During the attack, the assailants also kidnapped Alhaji Yusuf Bazamfare.
In response to the development, the police swiftly deployed tactical units to the affected community to strengthen security and prevent further attacks.
“Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police immediately directed the deployment of additional security forces to secure lives and property,” he stated.
The command said an extensive investigation has commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack, while security agencies continue efforts to rescue the abducted victim and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“A comprehensive investigation into the incident has since commenced, and efforts to rescue the kidnapped victim and track the perpetrators are ongoing,” Usman added.
Residents of Tsamiya and neighbouring communities were assured that security operations would remain in place until peace and stability are fully restored.
“The Command assures residents of Tsamiya and environs that security operations will continue until normalcy is fully restored,” the statement said.
The police further appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing useful information that could aid ongoing operations. Authorities added that further details would be communicated as investigations continue.
