There is growing unrest in the Ojuwo-Ubele community, located in the Akpanya district of Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area in Kogi State, following a deadly raid by armed bandits.
In the attack, two community members were killed while two others were abducted, according to local sources.
The incident reportedly occurred on February 28, 2026.
The local security team revealed that the gunmen targeted a provision shop, aiming to steal cash from the owner, according to The Guardian.
During the robbery, the shop owner was shot and later found dead after the attackers fled the scene.
The second fatality was identified as the Assistant Commandant of the Nigeria Forestry and Security Services Guard stationed at Ojuwo-Ubele.
A local vigilante explained the situation, stating: “In addition to the two people killed, the gunmen took away two other victims to the forest. Even though we saw the direction the gunmen headed, we could not intercept them because they were heavily armed with AK-47.”
Following the attack, the incident was reported to the Akpanya police post, prompting officers to visit the scene.
In a related development, a resident of Odolu community within the same Local Government Area was abducted by suspected armed men, increasing the total number of kidnapped individuals to three.
Meanwhile, a source from the community disclosed that the kidnappers are demanding a ransom of N25 million for the release of the three captives.
