Tension as soldiers deny APGA chieftain Umeh access to Ihiala
A former national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Victor Umeh, was given the marching order after he made attempt to come into the Ihiala Local Government Headquarters.
Umeh was rebuffed by an undisclosed army commander and some soldiers deployed to the area during Tuesday’s supplementary governorship election.
The army commander, whose name could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report, led heavily armed detachment of soldiers to secure the area.
Recall that the Anambra governorship election was declared inconclusive on Sunday by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
A supplementary election is being held in Ihiala LGA beginning from 10am.
Victor Umeh, who arrived at the local government headquarters around 10:30 am in company of other party members, was turned back by the stern-looking uniformed men.
“You are not supposed to be here,” the commander barked at Umeh who said he was at the LG HQ “to ensure things go well.”
“You are a state agent, not LGA agent,” the senior military officer responded to Umeh.
The Anambra election is expected to be concluded on Tuesday.
